Introduction

We now live in an ‘Experience Economy’ where the mode of exchange of value is an experience. Customers and employees are the most important parts of any organisation and therefore their experience of the organisation determines whether the business remains competitive or not. Today’s workplace is made up of a combination of different generations with opposing needs and expectations which are constantly changing. Organisations that focus on creating exceptional experiences for their employees and customers have shown to outperform their competitors.

The 2016 Deloitte Global Human Capital Trends says that ‘Design thinking casts HR in a new role. It transforms HR from a “process developer” to an “experience architect.” It empowers HR to reimagine every aspect of work: the physical environment; how people meet and interact; how managers spend their time; and how companies select, train, engage, and evaluate people’.

Employee experience (EX) is simply the reality of how employees feel within a company. EX enables HR to create a sync between various experience factions – physical, technological, and cultural environment.
